Little did he know that his creation would develop into a brand that represented a new level of craftsmanship in the boat industry. First it was his friends that recognised the unique design elements and functions that made Neil's boat better than any other they had seen. Today, more than 15 years later, 36 staff build over 400 boats a year for people in New Zealand, Australia and throughout the Pacific region.

Being a boat enthusiast himself, Russell Cairns got the ball rolling for Surtees boats on the east coast of Australia. And since then, the customer feedback has been the same “ Surtees crafts are built by a person who knows what Boaties need.”
